ABOUT ME

The music that I write on my own impulse generally has to do with nature and its Creator, because I think that it is not easy to understand that so much beauty has appeared by chance or that it can be explained simply with the word "evolution". That is why one of my favorite works is Beethoven's 6th symphony, The Pastoral.

I like to write music for the human voice, the first musical instrument and the only one that is shared by every culture since the earliest times. But it is also the most marvelous and complex of all; I hope to have here the license of the organists . . . of whom I am also one.
I firmly believe that music, however modern it may be, should not lose its connection with the great masters of the past, thanks to whom we have the music of today.
A good musical arrangement is like custom-made clothing, more expensive, but it is exclusive and unique.
I like challenges that put me to the test, that force me to make an effort and encourage me to continue learning; I don't like routine.

The task of conducting a choir is one of the most complex musical disciplines, since it is not only about playing your instrument - which is the choir - but also about building it. This means that you also have to be the luthier of your own instrument.

That is why musical conducting requires a very complete and specific preparation for the task. Singing well or knowing how to play an instrument does not mean that you are prepared to direct a choral or an instrumental music group.

I was attracted to musical direction from my first contacts with music. I conducted my first ensemble at the age of 19, and thank God, I'm still learning and enjoying it like in those former years.

Nothing can replace the emotion transmitted by a group of voices tuned and blended in sound and spirit.

I really enjoy the moment of acting in public; I always aim for it to be an experience of communication and mutual enrichment.

The directors of musical groups have the pedagogical responsibility of bringing new things to people. If we only do what is already known that the audience likes, we are not changing anything; and if we do not change, we do not evolve.

I had the great fortune of completing my high school studies at a time when the names of Bach, Mozart, Haydn, etc. resonated in music classes together with their glorious musical compositions. Additionally, in my secondary school there was a polyphonic choir of approximately 60 students and a music band with wind instruments. . . I was part of all that and when I finished high school it was already clear to me that my goal would be to specialize in music.

I not only had great teachers at the Institute; I also had a great guitar teacher as a tutor of whom I treasure great memories along with valuable teachings and with whom I still keep in touch.

Then came the “Artigas Professors Institute” in Montevideo and the “University School of Music”, as well as many other courses and master classes with well recognized teachers. But I began to understand what it is to be a teacher thanks to the excellent teachers and professors I had in adolescence to whom I express my everlasting gratitude.

For 27 years I was dedicated to teaching music in Uruguay at some official and private institutions. Simultaneously, I always worked in the conduction of choral ensembles for young people and adults - which also requires a teaching profile - until I came to Spain in 2010.

Due to my experience I believe that all children should sing in their schools and high schools, something that is not likely to be seen nowadays. Because of this, we are losing a very powerful tool to educate our next generations in values ​​such as: friendship, the search for a common target, the effort that implies improvement, lack of inhibition in front of an audience; the connection and knowledge with the great works of music history is also lost. Unfortunately, musical activities are less and less frequent in school routines in these times.

The traditional conservatory music teaching that I was a part of has been very useful for a long time; however many things should change to adapt to the environment in which we must live today.
